Muir Orthopaedic Specialists would like to inform you of the recent changes in the prescribing of controlled substances such as Norco, Vicodin, and Vicoprofen. As of October 6, 2014, the DEA has classified these medications to Scheduled II.
Due to these changes physicians are no longer allowed to call, fax or e‐Prescribe your prescription into your pharmacy. The requirement from the DEA is that these prescriptions be handwritten by a physician.
What this means to you:
- You or your designated representative (with a valid picture ID) must come to our office to pick up your handwritten prescription. This must be hand-carried to your pharmacy.
- The On‐Call Physician will not be able to refill your pain medication after hours or over the weekend. If you require this pain medication and are unable to wait until the next business day you may need to go to an Urgent Care/Emergency Room.
- Please allow 3 business days for our staff to process your medication request.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our office at (925) 302-2088 if you have any questions or concerns.
