Soccer, baseball and football athletes maintain top performances through cutting-edge orthopedic medicine and injury prevention

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (November 1, 2012) — Muir Orthopaedic Specialists is proud to announce their support and involvement in the success of local high school athletes in the Bay Area.

Dr. Charles Preston of Muir Orthopaedic Specialists works closely with young athletes to boost performance and prevent injury. He works with athletes at De La Salle High School, St. Marys College, Tassajara Valley Little League, the Bay Area Breeze Women’s professional soccer team, and more than 15 of the Pleasanton Rage soccer teams.

Treatment and goals are set to allow a young athlete to compete effectively and safely. The adolescent body requires different treatment and understanding when compared to the adult body. Understanding these differences can keep an athlete on the field more frequently, but also includes sensitivity to the needs of a growing body.

Many injuries can be traced back to overuse, premature single sport specialization, or a lack of active rest, says Dr. Preston. Through our deep understanding of the young athlete both physically and developmentally, we have helped teams accomplish their goals while maximizing performance and preventing injury.

Dr. Preston at DeLaSalle HSThe physicians of Muir Orthopaedic Specialists treat the whole athlete with a focus on preventing non-contact ACL injuries in soccer and football, and shoulder and elbow injuries in baseball.

The Pleasanton Rage soccer teams have experienced larger success while the Dougherty Valley High School baseball team advanced to the NCS division two finals last year.

We have limited windows in our life to compete athletically, explains Dr. Preston. I attribute a lot of my adult and professional success to the lessons I learned during high school football. I enjoy helping student athletes experience all they can during such important, developmental years.

Muir Orthopaedic Specialists provides comprehensive services in one location, providing access to physicians, X-ray equipment, MRI evaluation and physical therapy in one place. These conveniences allow for ease of treatment, and respect the busy schedules of parents.

Dr. Charles Preston serves as the medical director of the Sports Performance Institute at San Ramon Regional Medical Center, and provides medical advice and support to The Pitching Center in Pleasanton.
