Muir Orthopaedic Specialists’ nurse practitioners are skilled in helping you understand your body and how to live a healthier life. They work with you to teach you about your health.

Our nurse practitioners emphasize the promotion of health. In addition to health teaching and counseling, they can provide you with complete physical examinations, they can diagnose and treat common illnesses, manage stable chronic conditions, and monitor your response to medications.

Nurse practitioners are individually licensed by the state in which they practice.

Joan O’Brien Hart

Joan Hart has been working at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists since 2001 as a Nurse Practitioner with Dr. John Knight. Her caring and compassionate manner puts patients at ease and contributes to their successful recoveries.

Joan Hart has been a Nurse Practitioner since 1992. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Delaware followed by her master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. She has expertise in pain management and sports medicine. Joan has published several articles on postoperative pain management.

Using her nursing background, Joan places a strong emphasis on patient education. She spends time with patients teaching them about their orthopedic conditions, how to get better and what to expect after surgery. Joan is available for phone consultation to assist with advice regarding many patient questions such as postoperative recovery advice, pain management, physical therapy and frequency of follow up appointments.

Patients have the option of seeing Joan in the office when the doctor is unavailable or in surgery. She can perform injections, order x-rays and diagnostic studies and evaluate postoperative wounds. Her caring and compassionate manner put patients at ease and contributes to their recovery.

Laura M. Davis

Laura M. Davis Muir Orthopaedic SpecialistsLaura has worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the Sports Medicine program at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists since 2009. With a background as a registered nurse, Laura places a strong emphasis on patient education. Laura also assists in surgery, which contributes to her ability to provide continuity of care. Her focus on getting her patients on the road to recovery while minimizing down time, makes Laura an asset to the Sports Medicine program at MOS.

Laura works with Dr. Michlitsch and Dr. Preston in the clinic where patients can make appointments with her for initial evaluation, injections, diagnostic testing, and guidance through diagnosis and recovery.

Laura is an East Bay native who completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University in Human Biology with a focus on infectious disease and public health. She was an All American athlete for Stanford’s Varsity Swim Team and was a member of the USA national swim team.

Laura completed her master’s degree at Samuel Merritt University. Her enthusiasm for sports medicine and orthopedics developed through her athletic career and during her involvement treating sports injuries in the physical therapy department of Stanford’s health clinic.

Laura also teaches at Samuel Merritt University as an adjunct associate instructor for the Nurse Practitioner masters students in the splinting casting lab and musculoskeletal medicine lectures.

Euna Kim, FNP-C, MSN

Euna Kim, FNP-C, MSN | Nurse practitioner at Muir OrthoEuna has extensive clinical and academic nursing expertise. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from San Francisco State University and a Master of Science in nursing from Holy Names University.

Euna joined at MOS in 2016 and works with DR Chang in the clinic. She is available for initial evaluation, diagnostic testing and follow-ups as well as MRI, x-rays, EMG/ NCS, epidural injections, kyphoplasty and pain management.

Her love of nursing stems from her joy in working with patients. Specifically, she finds great reward in providing patients with recommendations, education, and interventions – then seeing a person’s health greatly improve after their work together.

When not at MOS, she finds peace and solace in the great outdoors – whether camping or working in her garden. “Being in nature is so peaceful,” says Euna. “You can hear the birds, feel the warm wind touching your face, breathe the fresh clean air, and really clear you mind. I go camping at least five times a year.”
