Dr. Toma is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in trauma surgery and sports medicine. He specializes in minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, sports medicine, and fracture management.
Dr. Toma is one of the first surgeons in the Bay Area to perform minimally invasive anterior approach hip replacement surgery. This surgery allows for a quicker recovery with less restriction in function than the traditional total hip replacement.

Dr. Toma believes that many orthopedic conditions can be managed non-operatively, and is an advocate of physical therapy and other conservative treatments. However, if surgery is necessary, he utilizes minimally invasive techniques if at all possible to reduce pain, scarring, and functional limitations.

More About the Doctor
Dr. Toma is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with 19 years experience, and he was awarded M.D. of the Quarter in 2011 by the John Muir Medical Center in Concord. He performs surgery at John Muir Medical Center, Mt. Diablo Medical Center.
Dr. Toma began practicing orthopedic medicine in 1993 after earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School. His internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery gave him the confidence and skill necessary to develop innovative treatment programs that speed recovery and get results.
In his spare time, he likes to ski, bike, and play with his children.
